1 Corinthians 15:35-49

"And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man."
 {1Corinthians 15:49} (NIV)

What kind of body is a spiritual body? A spiritual body is a body that bears the image of Christ Jesus, as opposed to a natural body that bears the image of Adam. Adam was formed out of dust and God breathed life into him. This is who we are now. We come from dust, we receive the breath of life from God and return to dust and our spirits return to God. (Eccl 12:7)

Consider who Jesus is. He didn’t come from dust. He came from heaven and took on the nature of a human (pulled on flesh over His spiritual deity; veiled Himself with humanity) (Phil 2:7). Not a game, or an act, Jesus is fully human (Heb 2:17).

Paul’s point here is that when we are resurrected we will no longer have dust (earth) as our basic element, but we will have spirit (heaven) as our basic element. This is a radical change from the way we are made right now. This line of thought brings new meaning to Paul’s teaching about the Spirit as a deposit.(2 Cor 1:22)

I am sure that this short post has raised more questions in your mind than given answers. Friend, searching out answers to your questions about the resurrection will benefit us spiritually. If there is no resurrection, our faith in Christ is useless!
