Isaiah 43:1-7

"This is what the LORD says- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: …”
{Isaiah 43:14a} (NIV1984)

Redemption requires that a price be paid. To redeem someone means that something of value has to be given in exchange for the person. This is a huge problem for people who are slaves! It is impossible for a slave to redeem themselves, for they own nothing of value; actually everything they have and even their very bodies are owned by their master.

The LORD tells Israel that He gave Egypt for their ransom; this is history. The LORD struck down the firstborn of Egypt and that alone was enough to free Israel. The redemption price was paid by the slave master, and on top of that payment, the Egyptians gave the Israelites gold as they left.

The LORD tells Israel that He will give people in exchange for them; this is prophesy. Why would the LORD of all the earth, strike down one nation for another? The answer lies not in the nation Israel, but in the LORD. He loves Israel, they are precious in His sight.

Why would the LORD of all the earth, strike down His only Son, so that people from all nations can be saved? The answer lies not in the people who are saved, but in the LORD. He loves those whom He chose in His Son before creation (Eph 1:4), they are precious in His sight. Oh friend, are you in Christ? Have you trusted in Christ Jesus for your salvation? Then bless the LORD oh my soul!
