Exodus 9:13-35

"But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
{Exodus 9:16} (NIV 1984)

This is the plainest statement in Scripture about the power of God and the purpose of evil rulers. Why are there evil rulers? God has raised them up (or spared them) in order that God’s power might be seen, and His Name proclaimed.

If Pharaoh had wisely allowed the Israelites to leave, the wonders of God would not have been revealed. This truth about Pharaoh is a truth about Satan. Why did God create Satan? So that He might show His power and that His Name would be proclaimed. Why has God allowed people in our lives who are evil and are bent on destroying us? So that He might show His power and that His Name might be proclaimed. Why did God allow His people to suffer abuse under this evil tyrant? So that He might show His power and that His Name might be proclaimed. Why does God allow His people to suffer sickness and pain? So that He might show His power and His Name be proclaimed.

Friend, call upon God this day: Show us your power! Heal us! Free us! Sustain us by Your mighty hand of grace! May we proclaim His mighty Name this day, to those we meet.
