Jan 9, 2018 - Suggested Reading 2nd Service Psalm 121

“My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:2 (NIV)

Song of ascents indeed! If the words of this little psalm won’t turn your thoughts heavenward in worship - I doubt that any words will.

He won’t let your foot slip

is the promise of eternal life, for we will not go down into the pit, and it is a promise for this life, for He will keep us from paths that lead to destruction.

he who watches over you will not slumber

is the promise of His undivided attention, human protectors need sleep, our God neither needs nor, nor wants sleep when it comes to watching over us.

the Lord is your shade at your right hand

describes the closeness of His watch, He is not far away,  He is beside us, more than that He protects our working hand, the power hand, the hand that we rely on for our life work.

The Lord will keep you from all harm

describes the purpose of His watch, not morbid curiosity, nor idle presence – but nothing comes to us, without going through Him first! Even the things that seem harmful, have His good purpose as a filter, and are used by Him for our good.

both now and forevermore

speaks to His eternal, everlasting presence of protection, His active working in our lives for our good. Surely he is our help!
Truly it is amazing that the Maker of heaven and earth would help us!
Even more amazing is that we do not lift our eyes up and seek help for our Helper!
