Democracy
is a wonderful blessing from God to humans. Consider these two quotes about
democracy from Winston Churchill:
1. Many forms of
Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No
one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said
that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms
that have been tried from time to time.
2. The best argument
against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.
We will hear today and in the weeks
to come of how the people of the USA have spoken. I thought it would be good
for our spiritual health to read Daniel 4 and remember the spiritual truth
behind all governments, all systems that rule over people. The spiritual truth
is that a loving, omniscient Most High God is the One who places men in power
over people! No matter what system of government is in place, it is God who put
them there, for His righteous purposes. It was God who spoke yesterday! May we
join the ancient king and lift our voices in praise: "Then I
praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His
dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to
generation." (vs.3)
